Entrepreneur recently came out with their list of the top franchises for 2016. To establish this list, many objective factors were taken into consideration, such as financial strength and stability, growth rate and size of the system, and number of years in business. In the end, Entrepreneur tallied the scores and listed the top 500 franchises for 2016. Take a look below at the countdown of top franchises, from ten to one.

10. Anytime Fitness

Anytime Fitness has a strong growth rate, with an increase of 10.1% new franchises in the past year.

9. Denny’s Inc.

This family restaurant actually experienced a 0.4% decrease in store units this past year, but with over 50 years in business and a high initial investment rate, Denny’s remains in the top ten on the list.

8. Dunkin’ Donuts

The popular donut shop has locations in over 32 countries and has seen an increase in franchise growth by 5.0% in the last year.

7. 7-Eleven Inc.

The only gas station in the top ten, 7-Eleven has seen a 5.2% increase in store growth, resulting in 2,918 additional units under their banner this past year.

6. McDonald’s

Arguably the most recognized quick service restaurant in the world, McDonald’s experienced a 2.3% store increase in the past year. With roughly 13,000 franchise locations in the U.S. and 17,000 international locations, it’s clear why McDonald’s made it into the top ten on this list.   

5. Subway

Subway has consistently ranked in the top ten on this list, with franchises across the U.S. and in 98 other countries.

4. Servpro

Servpro, a company that specializes in disaster restoration and cleaning, has over 1,500 locations in the U.S. and 11 outside of the U.S.

3. Supercuts

Franchising of this well-known hair salon began in 1979, and in the last year alone, it experienced a franchise growth of 5.3%.

2. Hampton by Hilton

Hampton saw tremendous growth in the past year, with an opening of 90 hotels. Additionally, the initial investment rate to open a Hampton franchise is quite high, catapulting the hotel chain to number 2 on the list.

1. Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches

Specialty sandwich shop Jimmy John’s lands at number 1 on the franchise 500 list with a 9.0% increase in store units. To better illustrate the extreme growth Jimmy John’s has experienced consider this: a decade ago, there were 404 U.S. franchise locations, and today, there are well over 2,000.
